County Council candidate, Winsley and Westwood
Richard and his wife Tessa have lived in Winsley for just over three years. They moved to the area from Salisbury where they had lived for the previous twenty two years and Richard had worked as a GP. The move was in part to enable Tessa, an Anglican vicar, to join the local ministry team. They have two boys and now two grandchildren.
After many years in general practice, which included time spent teaching doctors to become GPs, Richard chose to move into medical education which has been his focus for the last ten years. He has now retired from this work to focus on the local election campaign; something that he had not anticipated he would be doing when he joined the Liberal Democrats seven years ago! However, he feels that it is time to take a stand for liberal values which seek to help individuals and communities flourish through realising their own ability to do so.
Richard is an active member of his local church and he has helped return pantomime to the stage both taking part and being chair of the Nightingales amateur dramatic group in Winsley. His hobbies include ornithology and his passion for nature finds him serving on a climate action group for the local parish council and he is part of a group with a wider perspective seeking to take a 'bioregional' approach to mitigating climate change and loss of biodiversity.
Richard says "Winsley is a wonderful community to live in and it has proved wonderful for us to move here - where we can also enjoy discovering the local countryside and the delights of both Bradford on Avon and Bath".
